As members of motorcycle clubs we understand how important it is to keep our word. When we say we will do something, we are expected to follow through and do what we say. We do this because we understand that respect for ourselves and respect for others requires it.
What I want to talk about tonight is someone that always follows through on his promises. This person is not officially a member of a motorcycle club, though He is present at all of our events. Yes, I am talking about the big G. God is always with us and He has made promises to us that we can be sure He will always fulfill no matter what.
Matthew 11:28-29 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”.
Wow, what a promise. He says He will give us rest no matter how heavy our burdens seem to be. You are probably wondering now, why you have to get so tired at the end of a long day. Well, God doesn’t say we won’t get tired, His promise is to help us recover our strength for another day. One interesting example of this is a fellow named Caleb who lived a couple of thousand years ago. It says his heart was fully committed to God, and as a result God blessed him with great strength into at least his 80’s. God also enabled him to make war on a land of giants and drive them out when he was over 80 years old. I’m sure he got tired, but God refreshed him every day so he could go out the next day and continue the battle.
Another amazing promise comes to us from;
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”.
There is a promise we can all use, peace of mind and heart. I believe what God says, because when God makes a promise I can be sure he will deliver the goods. How about you?
