Anger – Chaplains Moment for UCOA February 3rd

We have all had the experience while riding our bike, or driving a car, where another driver cuts us off and nearly causes an accident, or in some cases does cause us to crash, or causes someone we love to crash. We all know what happens right after we get over the surprise. We get angry. And perhaps we have a brother who bottles up their anger, someone we know that gets very angry when they drink too much because they have all this anger inside.

We all have times in our life when we get angry, but whether you are a christian or not, the Bible give us some truths about what anger does in our lives, and what it does is not good.

Ephesians 4:26-27 “In your anger do not sin : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”

When we get angry, we start the process of giving up control of ourselves, the process of turning over our will to evil and destruction. Our anger may be justified, and it may be an understandable response to something someone has done to us. But if we allow our anger to build up, out of control, it will lead us to an end result that is far worse than the thing that made us angry in the first place.

Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.”

Proverbs 29:11 “Fools give full vent to their rage, but the wise bring calm in the end.”

Proverbs 19:11 “A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.”

Ok, let’s step back from the edge of the cliff for a moment. The Moments I prepare for you are intended to be encouraging, and this Moment is no different, but what I am about to tell you is that there is only one solution for my anger and yours. Everything else leads to failure.

The only way to get rid of your anger is to turn it over to God and ask Him to heal you and to bring your anger under His All Mighty control. Every other solution to my anger requires that I resolve to contain my rage. I have to do it myself. And if I can’t do it it won’t get done. I will just continue to be angry and continue to vent my rage, and continue to let evil be in control during those times when I get angry.

So, there you have it, the good news and the bad news. You can try to handle anger yourself, and fail. Or you can humble yourself before God and realize that only He has the power to heal you from this devastating sickness called anger.

I for one want the easy and only way out, how about your?

Legislative Day at the Capital

Debbie and I, along with hundreds of Texas Bikers headed to the Capital today for Legislative Day that happens every other year. This year we had great weather, so lots of people came out to talk to their legislators. We have a pep rally out front at the Capital, and then we go in to share out concerns about up-coming legislature. This year we are working on a red light bill, and lane filtering bill, and recently a new helmet bill popped up and we want to oppose mandatory helmet laws. Most of us wear helmets, but we believe it should be a persons choice. While we were there, we visited our neighbor’s son Jimmy who was just elected as a State Representative. We have known him since he was 7 years old. We are so proud.

I hope you enjoy the pics, and the video;

Tomorrow is Legislative Day, and in preparation for heading to the Capital, we got together at Hardtails in Georgetown to bring everyone up to date on all the issues that we will be presenting to our legislatures.We had a good crowd, and parking was at a premium, so we should have a good group tomorrow, but please join us at the Capital, even if you couldn’t make it today. Hand outs will be available tomorrow as well. Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment;

Debbie and I returned from Bartlett for the Austin Bandidos 49th Anniversary party at the Goal Post in Round Rock. We arrived about an hour after it started, and apparently everyone else go there on time, cause the place was packed. There was food, and vendors, and music of course. Lots of socializing, including clubs and some independents as well. Definitely a great party.
