New Life Riders, newsletter

It occurred to me today, that as a member of New Life Riders (NLR), I get a really nice (and informative) newsletter every month (as we have for the past many years), and most of you don’t get to see it.

i don’t know why I never thought of publishing it, but anyway here is a sample. If you like it, let me know, and I can get you on the mailing list.

Note: The content of the newsletter is from all of the officers of NLR, including myself as chapter chaplain. But as chaplain, I normally use the same article in the newsletter as I present to UCOA on the 3rd Wednesday of the previous month, so you may have already heard it there, or seen it published in this blog. The good news is that there is a lot more great information, articles, links and photos in it besides mine, so enjoy.

May UCOA, Texas Mist

We had our May UCOA meeting this evening at Texas Mist, and it was good to see everyone. It was a pretty light meeting, I think everyone was still up from the NCOM meeting a couple of weeks ago. Not much else to say, except we stuck around afterwards for a while and talked to a few people, which was pretty enjoyable.

Weakness – UCOA Chaplains Moment for May 21st

18 Sunday May 2014

When I was growing up, I was taught by my parents that I could do or get anything I wanted in life if I just applied myself to whatever “IT” was that I wanted. It sounds right, and I would guess that a lot of you were taught the same thing. Of course we all love motorcycles… A LOT.., so naturally we all wanted motorcycles and became biker.

But, I’m actually talking about some of the harder things in life. Things like working my job, supporting my family, and training up my children. Doing these things can be a lot harder than picking out my next motorcycle.

As I was starting to grow my family, Debbie decided she wanted to go to church. She said it would be good for the kids. It sounded ok to me, but I didn’t want to go, so I said go ahead, and I just did other stuff on Sundays. My attitude was that if she and other christians were weak and needed God, then that was fine for them, but I could do anything I put my mind to.

Some years later I came to realize I actually did have limits and I couldn’t really do anything I put my mind to. I discovered that I actually did need God.

Now some of you are probably thinking, ok, he’s weak, like all the rest of those christians. But, from that moment on, I have been learning that my first concept was very close to being right, I can do anything I put my mind to, provided that I rely on God for the power to get those things done.

In Romans 8:31 it says; “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”

God really is on our side, and He really does want to bless us. Of course I can still get myself into trouble when I go off and do things on my own. When I do that, I’m very likely to just get worn out as I keep thinking “I can do this”.

So, when, you find yourself banging your head against the wall, or the light at the end of the tunnel looks really really dim, why not pause for a moment and remember where real power comes from. Then change your focus from the wall to the One that is in control of the wall.

And, finally, remember that it is not weakness to ask for help, especially when the One you are asking actually knows the answer and wants to help you. I know Who I’m going to ask for help, how about you?

Bug Run at Burger University in Georgetown

We had our Bug Run today up in Georgetown at Burger University. The Bug run is our only fund raiser for CMA’s Run For the Son with is CMA’s annual event to raise money for spreading the Gospel to the world. This is the third year we have our on the Bug Run, and this year it went really well. We had lots of rider come out for the run, and great participation from the local motorcycle clubs. I think we had around 50 participants, and everyone was very generous. Thank you all so much. We had a bit of excitement in the afternoon, one of our members notices some smoke coming up from the ground near the wall of the bank across the street. he went over to see what was going on and found a smoke coming from the flower bed beside the bank. He tried to stamp it out, but wasn’t able to get it to go out completely, so someone called in the fire department, and as you can see they made short work of the problem.  Later Honor Bound came back from the run and we all got together as Christian Unity and prayed for the city of Georgetown. Finally at 4pm, we finished the judging and declared our two winners. They each had managed to hit a bug and get it to land less than 1/4 inch from the center of the target.  Good Shooting!

Burger University, NCOM, tmra2

We had our May meeting for TMRA2 at Palvos this evening. Great service, and great food. The meeting was pretty much a retrospective on the NCOM meeting this past weekend. About that, NCOM was really good, and very informative. There were lots of clubs in attendance from all over the US, and everyone got along just fine thank you.

Coming up this Saturday is our New Life Riders Bug Run at Burger University, starting at 12 noon. I hope y’all can make it.
