After church, I headed out to south Austin to the Star Dust Bar to drop off some school supplies. The temperatures today aren’t quite as high as yesterday, so we aren’t going to get blistered. I headed inside after arriving to drop off my supplies, and met Janice just inside the door, obviously waiting for me. I dropped off the stuff and we talked for a few minutes before we had lunch. I must say the lunch which was bbq brisket and sausage was very fine, but the potato salad and beans were out of this world. Now to be clear, it all went together superbly. The meat was done on-site, by club members, as you can see from the photos. I don’t know who made the tater salad, but it was scrumptious. The beans were provide by the mother of one of the club prospects. Apparently she either works at or owns the “Taqueria #3 LA Escondida” in south Austin on Ben White Blvd. True food to write home about. Oh, here are a few photos. Most are doctored a bit, particularly the shot of Old Filthy, which I made to look… Well old and filthy. Enjoy!
A couple of weeks ago y’all no doubt read that Calaveras Stonewall and Jessica Tolson were in a motorcycle accident. Stonewall got kind of beat up, and Got beat up even worse. They are both recovering, but they have doctor bills to pay so the benefit today was to help them out. It is what we do. Jim the manager at Texas Mist provided the fajita chicken meat and Calaveras MC BBQed it up to make fajita plates and we had music, raffle and silent auction to fill out the activities. I went over to take some pictures of the guys at the Boxing machine, and somehow got talked into taking a swing at it myself. I can’t say I got a very high number but I gave it a try. the good news is I didn’t break or pull anything in the process. Of course they had to take my picture. As I look at the pictures, I notice that Calaveras Carpenter somehow managed to get into several of my shots. i think he must have been following me around. Good job Carpenter! And finally, one of the auction items was one of those Share The Road signs, and I just had to bid on it. I did win it, so now we will have to find a good place to display it. I thought about putting it in the back window of Debbie’s car, but it turns out that sign is bigger than I thought. Maybe the front window of the house! Anyway, it was a great time, and I’m sure we helped out Stonewall and Jessica a bunch.
We wandered out to the old Cindi’s Hawg Wild (now Ironwood ice House) on Hwy 71 South for the Coats (and School Supplies) for Kids event put on by Calaveras MC. It was very well attended, probably because it is a good cause, or possibly because they had really good Beef & Shrimp or Chicken and Shrimp taco plates. They definitely had some spice to them. Very tasty. There were also several musical groups, including one of my favorites EBM (Execution By Music). They are very good, of course, but their theatrics really set them apart. If you have an opportunity to hear and see them perform, it will be well worth your time. Calaveras MC also decided to patch a couple of their prospects in at this event, so they asked one of the Bandidos to do a sort of “interview”. I can only say it was very entertaining. I don’t think I want to be interviewed by a Bandido. In the end it was all laughing and hugs. Welcome new full patched members. Janice joined us after a bit, and we had lunch, then after some music and the prospect excitement, we headed over to the Photo Booth for some fun shots. I think I look kind of scary, but what can I say, Debbie dressed me.
Calaveras MC is having their annual benefit to collect school supplies and coats for kids tomorrow at Ironwood Icehouse down on Hwy 71 at the old location where Cindi’s Hawg Wild use to be. The event will run from Noon to 6PM, and there will be five music artists and bands. Cover is $5, and Fajita plates are $5. Here is the flyer, I hope to see y’all there.
Debbie and I went shopping in preparation for this event, so even though she is now in California visiting relatives, I have something to donate to the Coats and School Supplies for Kids benefit today. I arrived early, but I was in time to witness their taco plate production line as Calaveras MC put together 50 plates that were pre-purchased for another local event. They were ready for a crowd, which was good because they got pretty good participation from the clubs, probably around 100 people coming in from the hot (100+) weather outside to the air conditioned building where the event was held. Oh, did I mention that everyone got to drive their bikes into the building and park in the air conditioning. No one was complaining about the hot weather after they they arrived, and not surprisingly, everyone hung around for a long time. Which brings me to the music. I don’t know their name, but there were three guitars and a drummer playing sort of rock bluesy tunes that were really nice. I also enjoyed a chicken taco plate with all the fixins’ as did everyone. There were also some sweet extras available if you were so inclined. Finally last but certainly not least, if you got too cold in the building you could go outside and get your bike washed by a nice young lady in a… Well, lets just say she was wearing pink. Enjoy the photos
