We live our lives, in what could be described as a very noisy and distracting world. A world where there are reports of terrorist attacks almost daily, reports of motorcyclist deaths or injuries nearly every weekend, and the situation in Waco doesn’t seem to ever change. Yes, there are many things that try to make us angry and pull our focus away from what is important. But as Lefty said, “we must not let ourselves get distracted”. We are a community of brothers and sisters that care about each other and we care about keeping the freedom we have to live a lifestyle that focuses on brotherhood, integrity and respect. We know what we want, but the world keeps trying to pull us this way and that, trying to distract us from our main focus.
But fortunately, I am sure you won’t be surprised to hear that the Bible talks about fighting against distraction;
Philippians 4:6,7 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
As Gimmi Jimmy once said (my paraphrase) “If God is for us, who can be against us?”. I know that God is in control, and while He doesn’t promise us that everything in this life will be easy, He does promise us that when we trust Him, he will protect us in the palm of His hands.
John 10:28-30 ” I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.”
So, I know where I am placing my trust, and I believe He will give me His peace, and keep the distractions away, How about you?
If you have never experienced the peace that God can give you, and you want that peace, please talk to me or one of the other chaplains after the meeting.
