I am not big on New Years Resolutions. They certainly sound good, you know what I mean, things like I’m going to do better this year, I’m going to work harder, pray more, donate more, etc, etc, I’m going to be a better person this year. It’s even in the Bible, for example about praying, 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says “pray without ceasing”.

The problem is, that even though that sounds good, it isn’t going to happen if you or I are the ones doing it. I know that sounds confusing, after all if I don’t pray more then who will, or how is it going to get done if not by me. Well, as usual, if you have been listening to me for a while, I am going to remind us that God is the one that does all these things, and we are just along for the ride (so to speak). Further down in 1 Thessalonians 5:24 it says “Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.”

You see, as big and strong and smart and dedicated as you might be, the actual power to be a better person doesn’t come from you, it comes only from God, and “He will bring it to pass.”, as we learn to trust Him more with each passing day.

So, make all the resolutions you like, but remember to pray to the One with the Power. As it says in Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”.
