We have all seen the rappers with their gold chains around their necks, proving to us how rich they are, showing off their bling. So, did you know that the Bible talks about Gold chains? Yes it does.
Proverbs 1:7-9 says;
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction. Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a crown for your head and a gold chain for your neck.”
Now, we don’t want to think of ourselves as fools, but if we are honest, we know we have all occasionally done foolish things. How many times have we said “what’s the worst that can happen?”, only to find out!
We all want to be wise and receive instruction that will benefit us, but where will we go to get that wisdom and instruction?
As It says; “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge”. So what does that mean? Well, I believe, in this case, the fear of the Lord is respecting God for who He is and acknowledging that he has good intentions toward us. When we do that, we allow ourselves to become receptive to His wisdom and knowledge
So, if we do seek wisdom and understanding, and we use wisely what God reveals to us, what do we gain that would be as valuable as a crown or gold chain?
Proverbs 2:6 says;
“For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth comes knowledge and understanding. He stores up success for the upright; He is a shield for those who live with integrity so that He may guard the paths of justice and protect the way of His loyal followers.”
Wow, what is an amazing promise, and it doesn’t stop there. Verse 9 continues;
“Then you will understand righteousness, justice, integrity and every good path. For wisdom will enter your mind, and knowledge will delight your heart. Discretion will watch over you, and understanding will guard you, rescuing you from the way of evil — from the one who says evil things.”
Isn’t this what we all want? To make successful decisions and to live our lives with integrity, justice and confidence. That is my desire, how about you.
