We had the july UCOA meeting tonight at our usual location, Texas Mist. There was lots of fellowship, before. during and after the meeting. We had a donation given to J. W. Rock for our Christmas families from the Tornados, and Mini-Me along with Guardians of the Children presented some children’s backpacks to a nice lady representing an organization that helps kids. And finally, Louis and Candy picked up their silent auction prize from the Jug Run Saturday, a biker board game. Sounds like fun. Oh, one more thing, we got a short but appropriate lecture about a couple of motorcycle accidents that happened recently on two of the local fly-overs at 183 and MoPac. Y’all be careful out there, especially on those fly-overs!
Life is full of experiences, some good and some not so good. Experiences are part of what molds us into the people we are. As independent thinkers, which is another term for Biker, we like to believe that we are at least partially in control of how the experiences of life affect us. After all, if I don’t like my job, I can always go look for another one. But, some experiences are harder to fix; like fighting cancer, or recovering from a serious motorcycle accident. Sometimes these experiences come to define us, in bad ways, or good.
Of course is isn’t always easy to move on after a bad experience, sometimes we get stuck, and just can’t seem to get past it, and our load just seems to get heavier and heavier… If we have a friend who will take the time to listen and help, we are indeed blessed, but there is Someone who is ALWAYS right here with us. He always has the time and He wants nothing more than to help us carry our burdens.
Jesus said in Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
I used to think I could handle my burdens, and you might also think that way, but if you find yourself overloaded, remember there is Someone who want’s to help, and He is only a thought or a word away. Oh, and, all those bad experiences you have had that you think will keep Him from listening to you? They won’t, because He Loves you unconditionally… Sometimes I need to lighten my burden, how about you?
We had our Officer’s meeting for July tonight at President Potters house. I had previously posted on Facebook that were going to have Cake and Steak for dinner, but it turned out we had pork ribs and cake. My response… OK! They were delicious. We did of course have the officers meeting too, but there wasn’t a lot to discuss, so we mostly socialized. Just a few pics, enjoy.
Well, my final activity today is to photograph the Wells Branch Fireworks display. I decided I didn’t want to fight the traffic, so I went and parked about a block from the Wells Branch Pond and walked over to the pond to watch from there. The display was pretty good from there, except for the trees covered any fireworks that were low to the ground, as some were, but most of them were well above the trees. Anyway, it started about 9:30 and ended around 10PM. Here then are my best photos, which is not to say i am particularly good at this kind of photography. Some of them are kind of blurry. Oh well, enjoy as you can 🙂
Second stop today was the Wells Branch community center and park where the festival was taking place. I could have walked, but I had hoped to park a little closer than my house. I was fortunate and did find a parking place only about a block away from the park. As you might imagine, there were lots of people and many children, with various things to entertain them. The bungy jumping thingie was very popular with long lines and the corresponding wait to be able to get on it. The good news, is there was no cost to the games, so all you had to pay was time 🙂
I walked around for a while, my goal was to sort of document all the stuff that was there and show everyone having fun. I found myself taking pictures of several children, so to be prudent, I always talked to their parent so I could give them a card so they could see their children’s photos. Nobody seemed to mind, and I passed out a lot of cards. If you happen to be one of those parents, feel free to contact me for a larger image than is posted here if you want to get a print made. I also found this cute little older couple sitting in front of one of the buildings. They were all decked out in their 4th of July outfits, so I made them pose for me. I think their picture came out really nice. Anyway, enough words from me, here are the pictures;
