Do you consider yourself good? You know what I mean, do you always do what is right? Do you follow the speed signs? Do you pay your debts? Do you return things you borrow? Do you always do what you say you will do? I can go on and on, but I think you get the idea. We are each flawed to some extent, some of us more than others, and some of us have learned to live with our flaws and just say, that’s the way I am, or maybe you blame it on your parents, they brought me up this way so it isn’t my fault. Whatever reasoning you use, it allows you to keep going, one foot step after the other, moving forward.
You know the Bible says that no one is good, only God is good. Some of us try to be good, because we think we can get on God’s good side and earn a place in Heaven one day when the pain of this life is over. Unfortunately God doesn’t agree with that line of thinking. But the good news is that God has provided a way that is even easier than trying to work our way into heaven. Romans 5:8-9 says; “God demonstrates His love for us, in that while we were “not good”, Christ died for us. We have now been declared righteous by his blood, we will be saved through him from God’s wrath.”. My part is just to accept the gift of Christ’s sacrifice for me, and open the door to Him to come into my life.
So, if I do this, do I have to change my life? Well, there is the sticky question, but the truth is that you don’t. Which is not to say there won’t be any changes, but you see when Jesus moves in, he brings with him someone called the Holy Spirit who is one really powerful warrior, and no I don’t mean he will beat you up and make you change, but he will give you the power to do the things you already know are right. You can sort of think of him like a turbo charger, he kicks in when you need a boost. And the really exciting part is you get to see him working, which can be a real kick. I for one am kicking in the turbo charger, how about you.
Part two;
If you would like to get in on this amazing deal, it is really simple. All you have to do is pray (which is just speaking to God inside your own head);
“Jesus, I realize I am not Good, and I want you to come into my life, because I can’t be good, and I want your help,”
It is as simple as that. If you prayed this prayer, I would appreciate it if you would let me know, so I can be praying for you. This is the beginning of an adventure that starts today and continues in Heaven, when Jesus says to you “Well done good and faithful servant!”, and the angels rejoice!
P.S. If you are reading this and you have already prayed that prayer sometime in the past, but you just haven’t seen any big improvements in your life, don’t worry about it too much. You only need to ask him into your life once, and after that the rest of your life is the process of growing to be like him as he teaches us what life is really all about. Sometimes the process moves slowly and sometimes it moves quickly. Just know that He is always there to see us through the difficult times, and to rejoice with us during the great times. Why not ask him to open your eyes to see how he is working in your life today. He will.
P.P.S I heard a song on the way to work today that is oh so appropriate. If you are feeling down and out, and forgotten, then this will help;
I found these lyrics Here.
He Will Make A Way by Kathy Troccoli
I know that you’re discouraged
But you’re not alone
There is absolutely no situation
Out of His control
One door may close
Another will open
Jesus is healer of all that is broken
He will make a way
Where there is no way
He will bring His peace
Where there is no peace
Watch Him put together
What’s been torn apart
He can soften up the most
Hardened of hearts
He will make a way
Where there is no way
Don’t you go believin’ lies
He’s not forgotten you
There’s gonna be another
Higher, greater place He will take you to
Watch Him move mountains
Ride you through the waves
He can deliver in the darkest of days
He will make a way
Where there is no way
He will bring His peace
Where there is no peace
There is no war
He doesn’t win
When you’re at your end
He’s just beginning
He will make a way
Where there is no way
Our only hope is in Him
No matter what this life can bring
Jesus stands alone
As the God of impossible things
He will make a way
Where there is no way
He will bring His peace
Where there is no peace
Watch Him move mountains
Ride you through the waves
He can deliver in the darkest of days
He will make a way
Where there is no way
He will bring His peace
Where there is no peace
